Chevrolet Silverado: How to Program HomeLink

Pair your Chevy Silverado 1500 to your garage door opener using these simple instructions.

The HomeLink feature in your Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a convenient accessory that allows you to open and close your garage door from your vehicle. Setting up HomeLink requires just 10 minutes of your time and there are absolutely no tools needed to complete the job. Best of all, you won't need to make a trip down to your local Chevrolet dealership for professional assistance. Once the system is set up, you won't need to do anything else. Simply press the button you've programmed and begin using HomeLink. Read more for the specific steps.

Materials Needed

  • Garage door opener
  • Service manual

Step 1 – Erase your old codes

  • Press and hold the first and third buttons on your rearview mirror until the red indicator lights starts blinking.
  • This step could take several seconds.
  • Your vehicle is clearing out any old codes that may have been stored in the system.

Pro Tip

You will want to erase any previous codes before getting started.

Step 2 – Pair your remote to your vehicle

  • Hold and press the button on your garage door remote (this button controls your garage door), while simultaneously pressing 1st, 2nd or 3rd button on your rearview mirror.
  • Your are now pairing your rearview mirror to your garage door remote.
  • You will use this button to control the function of your garage door once the programming process is complete.
  • Continue until the red indicator light on your rearview mirror starts blinking, which is an indication that the code has been accepted.

Pro Tip

Your garage door remote should be within hands-length of your rearview mirror.

Step 3 – Exit your vehicle

  • Press the 'learn' button on your garage door opener. This button should appear on the back of your garage door opener. It may or may not be marked.
  • After pressing the button, a light will appear.
  • Enter your vehicle, and then immediately press and hold the button on your rear view mirror that you programmed in Step 2.
  • You will need to hold down the button for several seconds.
  • The lights on your truck and garage door opener will both flash once the process is complete.

Step 4 – Test the HomeLink system

  • Test the button you programmed in the above steps.
  • Your garage door should open and close as directed.
  • If you experience any trouble, repeat the above steps.

Pro Tip

Make sure your vehicle is positioned directly in front of your garage door when pressing the programmed button.
