Fog lights are often ignored components of our trucks, but they are quite handy when you need them. Namely, when you go to leave for work in the morning and the fog is so thick you can seemingly cut it with a knife. But what do you do when you go to flip them on and nothing happens? A blown bulb is your likely culprit. Or, maybe you've been thinking about installing a set of LED bulbs in your fog lights to make things even brighter than stock. Either way, the good news is changing out a fog light bulb is a very quick and extremely easy job that you can do yourself. It doesn't even require any tools.

Materials Needed

  • Replacement fog light bulbs

Step 1 – Remove the factory bulb

To remove the factory bulb, simply reach up behind the bumper and find where the bulb plugs in to the back of the fog light with your hand. Push inward on the top and the bottom of the bulb socket with your fingers and simultaneously pull outward to remove the bulb housing. Remove the wiring from the bulb and pull the bulb straight back out of the socket.

Step 2 – Install new fog light bulb

To install the new fog light bulb, simply reverse the steps. Plug the new bulb into the wiring. Place the bulb into the socket, depressing the top and bottom tabs as you slide it into place. Watch from the front of the bumper while you are sliding the bulb in to make sure it's going in straight. It may take a few tries to get the bulb to click into place as it's a bit tricky. Once it clicks into place, repeat the steps for the other side if needed. Test the fog light bulb to make sure it works properly before you head on down the road.
