This article applies to the Chevy Silverado 1500 (2007-2013).

Innovative and constantly evolving safety features and accident avoidance technology is making vehicles on the road safer than ever before. At the end of the day, though, you'll still want a truck with a solid cage to keep you and your passengers safe. The Silverado 1500 does quite well in structure tests and ranks among the best in its class for safety. Here's a look at specific crash test data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Crash Test Results

NHTSA

The NHTSA is a government organization that conducts crash tests and analyzes the results to make vehicles safer overall and reduce the risk of death or serious injury in a crash. The three main areas that are likely to be most affected in a crash, including frontal and side impacts and rollovers, are closely analyzed during each test. Test results are ranked in a star rating system where five stars is the best and zero is the worst.
