There are usually three ways you can come to realize that your headlight bulb is blown out in your Chevrolet Silverado. You could notice it yourself, somebody else lets you know, or you get pulled over. Headlight bulbs go bad just like any other sort of light bulb, but the good news is, they are very easy to replace. Keep reading to learn how to replace it yourself, and save some money from going to the professionals.

Materials Needed

  • Phillips and flat head screwdrivers
  • New light bulb

Step 1 – Remove air filter housing

Begin by lifting your hood and removing the four screws that hold the air filter housing in place using a Phillips head screwdriver. Then use your flat head screwdriver to loosen the collar that holds the housing on the throttle tubing. Once loose, unplug the mass air flow sensor, pull the tubing off of the housing, and pull the housing out. Next, remove the air filter box underneath the housing by giving it a good pull.

Step 2 – Remove old headlight bulb

Use a flat head screwdriver to pry off the tabs that hold the back of the headlight cover in place. Pull the cover off by turning it to the left to gain access to the bulb. Unscrew the bulb, then unplug the connector by lifting up on the tab while pulling it away from the bulb.

Step 3 – Install new headlight bulb

Screw the bulb into place and test to make sure it works properly. Next, replace the headlight cover. Push the tabs back in to secure the cover. If necessary, repeat these steps for the other headlight bulb.

Once completed, place the air filter box back in the truck and push down to lock it back into place. Place the air filter housing back in the truck and push the throttle tubing back on, then tighten the screw. Replace the four screws holding the air filter housing back in place.
