Bed rails are quite useful for any truck owner, adding not only a little bit of styling flair but also another way to securely fasten cargo. There are quite a few different kinds of rails out there in the aftermarket, but pretty much all of them serve the same purpose. Bed rails provide a way to properly secure even the heaviest of loads, going beyond the factory tie downs in usability. Plus, they just plain look good. Keep reading and learn how easy it is to install a pair with minimal tools and effort.

Materials Needed

  • Allen wrench (supplied with bed rail kit)
  • Bed rail kit

Step 1 – Preassemble rail end pieces

Before placing the rails on the truck bed, preassemble the ends onto each rail. Push the sleeves onto the end pieces and twist until they lock down and you hear a clicking noise. Place the bolt into the bolt hole and place the plastic spacer and expansion block on the pieces. Finally, screw the bracket piece onto the end. Use the supplied Allen wrench to tighten it up just enough to hold the pieces in place.

Step 2 – Assemble bed rails and install on truck

Place each completed end piece into the ends of the rail tubes, one on each end. Place each assembled rail into the stake pockets of the truck bed. Make sure each end is pushed all the way in and secured. Use the Allen wrench to tighten each end down. You may need to push down and apply a little pressure while tightening to ensure the expansion block is all the way inside the pocket. If needed, step inside the bed of the truck and use your weight to push down on them. Once complete, repeat on the other side.
