Hey i was wondering if any one can tell me where i can get the OEM color of paint for the 2000 silverado. i'm looking for red, i will be adding exterior accessories to my truck and want the color to match. i also have a couple of spots i need to touch up. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

if you're lookin for the OEM paint code for your car, its on the car. Not sure where it is on Silverado's but on my Cav its on the bottom of the spare tire cover. I'd check on the driver side door sill first.

want the absolute correct paint code? take your VIN to any GM dealership and they'll be able 2 tell U what it is-but don't forget, the paint will have some fade 2 it, and red always seems 2 B the worst. good luck.

Yes, look on the car for the color code. It should be in one of 3 places...1) The spare tire cover 2) The glove compartment/center console and 3) the drivers side door jamb. Look for a white sticker with something like this one it..... U8555 L8555. The U and L can also be a Q sometimes. If your car is a 2-tone then the number will not repeat....it will look more like U8555 L9867. On the same line you may also find a "WA" or the 4 digit number followed by a 2 digit number and another letter...like this.. WA 8555 15U. In this case you want to use the 4 digit number. If you try and ask for the 2 digit number it will point to several different colors where as the "WA" number will only point to one. :) I hope I did not confuse anyone. lol

Look in your door jamb for the paint code. Should be on your sticker. Touch bottles with exact paint code match can be found at Wal-Mart. Larger quantities can be found on line or at you local dealer.

ok, not to sound like a jerk, but going to Wal-Mart to find Automotive Paint is about as effective as going to Wal-Mart to find a surgeon. :) Just cuz they have it on the shelf and it says its the correct color does not mean it is by no means. The only absolute way to get exact custom matched automotive paint is to get it from a company that makes it....from scratch...using raw tints and a complicated computer database. Only these specially trained color match specialists can take all the factors of your car into account and only these specialists can guarantee a good match. Here is what will happen if you go to Wal-Mart or any other place that has pre-made touch-up paint:
It's probably lacquer. Lacquer was discontinued by DuPont two years ago because it does not stand up to quality standards anymore; especially with great advancements in automotive refinishing technology like the use of 2-stage urethanes in basecoat/clearcoat systems. Anyway, the paint will only match if your the luckiest person on the planet, after you use it you will have to buff it out to achieve any gloss, and in a relatively short span of time I would not be surprised if the paint cracks from being god knows how old from sitting on the shelf and because Lacquer is just brittle. As I said before it's "probably" lacquer. If not, its a single stage Enamel, which is an improvement from Lacquer but still not great. Enamel may not be as brittle or as low quality but its still not going to match being pre-made and sitting on a shelf somewhere. In order to account for field alternates, VIN alternates, fading, and variations based on where it was painted, the store would have to be the size of the moon filled to the brim with touch-up bottles. :) You're only real solution is to get custom matched automotive paint from specially trained color match professionals. You're car is one of the biggest investments you will ever make and this is especially true for those out there that do a lot of custom work to their vehicles. Do yourself a favor and do it right the first time.
Now with that being said, if you're looking for custom matched automotive paint in touch-up bottles, spray cans, or paint pens, or even larger amounts like pints, quarts, or gallons then get this info for your car:
Make
Model
Year
Color Code (if you dont know it, those same professionals can tell you exactly where it is on your car)
VIN
With this info the specialists can custom make any color for any car that ever existed and they guarantee the match.
Its also useful to know that they can make bumper colors, interior colors, vinyl colors, rim/wheel colors, underhood colors etc. Just my 8 cents

No offense taken.
Online was one of the places I mentioned. I have never had a problem with little touch up spots with the little bottles I purchased from Wal-Mart, I know its probably not the best, but for little touch ups its works fine. If I was painting anything larger than a tiny blemish, I would definately check out and research info about paintworldinc.com.
