I was wondering if anyone here tows a heavy trailer with their Suburban. I'm planning on a trailer that will weight about 12,000 pounds. That's the same as the max weight on a 8.1 liter Suburban with 4.10 gears.

I know it's within the weight rating, but I'm very curious about how well it'll actually work.

Thanks

Just don't tow in Overdrive. It'll be OK.

u can tow in overdrive, it was designed to do so. You can also use the tow/haul switch to change your shift points so the tranny is not constantly "searching" for the correct gear

I have a 2003 suburban LT 2500 with the 8.1 and autoride. I tow a 30 ft travel trailer (10k lbs) and a 24ft car hauler, and it handles both trailers without a problem. I use a single sway control and a load leveling hitch. I even took the 24ft hauler out west with 4 snowmobiles in it through the Rockies with no issues outher than a loss of power at 10,000 feet .
