Carb question(s)!?!

bowtieonly21 -> Carb question(s)!?! (9/20/2006 7:08:08 PM)

I have a 1984 Monte Carlo CL. I got her with about 54xxx miles and she had been driven, literally, by an old lady. She's got the stock 305 with almost all original parts. She is not in the best shape anymore, especially with the recent hail damage, but I would like to get her running at least. I was told by a GM Goodwrench service department at the dealership the vehicle was purchased at that there was an issue with the carburetor. I had asked the mechanic and the service manager, whom I have known for 10 years, if I were to replace the screwed up carburetor with a rebuilt or an aftermarket/ performance carburetor, would the problem be solved. I was told possibly but no guarantees. I had planned on doing moderate-major performance upgrades for quite a while and need to decide if I still want to invest the time and money, or if I should fix the major issues and sell my baby. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I've had good luck with Holley carbs on Chevy's, Pontiac's, and Fords. Easy to install and great performance! I prefer Holley to the QJet.

I was told that Holley carbs are a waste of time and that I should definitely go with an Edelbrock carb. Thanks for responding though. What kind of Chevy do you own?
