Hello,

I have a 2003 S10 RWD 2.2 5spd. Has about 49K miles on it. Recently had to have new front brakes, new front shocks, and re-packed front wheel bearings. I don''t do a lot of highway driving these days, but I''ve noticed lately that when I do go on the highway, it starts to vibrate and shake quite noticeably as soon as I go over 55 MPH, and by the time I''m at 60 or 65, the whole vehicle is shaking and vibrating very severely, and when I look in my side view mirror I can even see the bed shaking.

So, what gives? I took it into the shop this morning and they couldn''t find anything wrong with it everything "looked straight and tight" they said but they suggested I rotate and balance the tires just in case that was the issue, so I had them do that... but it still vibrates and shakes like crazy when I go over 55.

Any ideas?

My guess would be:tires could be out of round, the lugs could be loose, or the bearings may not be seated properly.

The tires only have 6K miles on them so I would hope that they aren''t the culprit... I sure as heck can''t afford new ones! Was only a few months ago that I bought them. (Cooper Discoverer ATR)

You could very well have a tire with a broken belt in it. I''d go back to where I bought them and have them check it out. You also didn''t say who did the wheel bearings and shocks. An incompetent mechanic can cause a multitude of problems.
