hello
i got a 77'' 350 block that i just took apart, it has a chip at the bottom of a cilinder bore down by the camshaft, about 1/4 inch up the bore and 1/2 inch from side to side. is the block trash or will it work, i figure it would be the place for a hot spot and it wouldn''t be good. i don''t have big plans for the engine, just a rebuild to keep me busy, and i''m sure a new block wouldn''t be hard to find, i was just wondering what i''m dealing with and if it''s usable how far could i take it?
i''ll load some pictures soon.
thanks in advance

if it is in the piston ring travrl aera it will be prone to oil consumption and eventually plug fouling ,cant be in a load bearing surface of the cylinder wall .

You could sleeve it,but given how easy it is to get bare blocks-the question is why would you want to?.I''ld find another block.

Bill-just for your ref-we have from time to time in drag racing sleved blocks that have turned from 6800 to 7000 grand with no failures.F.Y.I.
