A custom tune will definitely help, but TRUE dual Flowmasters, Gibson performance headers, and K&N FIPK make the package for aftermarket bolt up accessories.
Mine responded nicely!
Take a look at an overview of everything I''ve done at:

I used to just have a k&n filter but then i put a single 3 inch cat back with a 40 series flowmaster and a custom intake system which helped but the power seemed different. then i spent the money on street legal headers by jba which are nice because theyre jet hot coated with 3/8 flanges so I never have to worry about leaks and they made the biggest difference in the world for my 2001 Z71 5.3L
