I have a 99 burb, 350 2wd, 90K. I am driving on the interstate and all of a sudden the engine bogs down.  No power. When i let off the gas, the engine responds.  The engines boggs when under load, it will run to about 1500 rpm,s, then starts hesitating and kicking. I limp home and the next day it runs ok.  This has happened twice, both times on the interstate after about two to three hours on the road.  Could it be the throttle position sensor?  Any other suggestions?

Jim,

I just experienced the same problem last week with my 99 Suburban 4X4 with 122K. For me, it was the in tank fuel pump. The pump would actually slow down, and sometimes stop. I could hear it outside the vehicle. This would result in symptoms ranging from stumbling to an all out dead on the side of the road. If I struck the bottom of the tank, I could get it running again.

I dropped the tank to replace what I believed to be the original the fuel pump only to discover that all of these years in the rust belt had also destroyed the top of my tank. I finished the tank and pump job last night with only skinned knuckles and a wallet that was $500 lighter.

Hope that helps,

     -JR
