94 k2500 turn signal lever

Status: offline 		i need to replace the turn signal lever.  i have the column apart and the turn signal lever loose with the part it slips into.  i cannot figure out how to separate the old lever from the small peice inside the steering column.
Does anybody have the peice of knowledge i need?
