Hello all,
If I buy a replacement OEM radio for my 2007 Silverado, what is involved with the ''after install'' issues.
I''ve heard you have to get it programmed from a dealer to make it work right.  does anyone know if you can do this yourself?  or is it worth just going to have it done at the dealer?  how much does it cost if I install the radio myself, and they just program it?  can I install it myself?  since it''s OEM I would think the install would be super easy just plugging in connectors that are all there and matching.  anybody done this?

for extra info, my truck is a ''07 Silverado 2500HD ''Work Truck'' model.
it came with the AM/FM stock radio.  i''m wanting to put in the CD version that is XM compatible in case i ever want to hook that up, and it has the aux input for my ipod or whatever else.
Thanks

any OEM stereo is coded for security reasons. when you disconnect the battery, eg, then you have to enter stereo code to make it work. so, you''ll need code for your replacement OEM stereo, or it won''t work.

Starting with the 2003 models, the radio will only work with the original vehicle.  Either the radio reads the VIN from the truck, or the truck reads the serial number from the radio.

I have a 2007 Silverado work truck that I want to do the same thing.  The dealer wants $100.00 to re-program.

I haven''t found out if anyone else can do it.

To both bignate and itlldue, after changing the radio you must have to radio programmed to your vehicle by the dealer. the dealer needs to use the Tech2 and Tis2Web.
