Does anyone have the definitive answer on how to tell a Cheyenne from a Silverado? Mine has all the Siverado trim and seats, but I can find no code that seperates it from a standard C2500. THe only "badges" are the bowtie on the front and 2500 on the side, nothing on the tailgate.

Definitive Answer? Check the RPO Codes... Z84 - Cheyenne YE9 - Silverado In 1998, Silverado was an option package. A Silverado has most of the "luxury options" A/C, pw, pdl, etc. and a little more "bling" like chrome trim around the wheel wells. A Cheyenne could be ordered with most of the Silverado - package options, it would just cost you a lot more... My 96 has two small (2" x 3") Silverado badges located on the cab, just behind the doors, at side mirror height. Only thing that''s on the tailgate is CHEVROLET although it resides in a chrome trim piece, which I believe is unique to the Silverado option...

And there it is, YE9! That is one of the codes I was having problems decoding!! Thank you very much!! Thus ends a 2 1/2 week investigation! That explains all the bling! And this is what the code says.. YE9 Convenience Package Comfort and Decor Level #3 very cryptic!!

Hydengr: Then my white, reg cab 2000 model 2500 series, 350 engine, must be a -001A. It has cruise control, tilt steering wheel and a radio. Did not even come with air bags, I did not realize that when I bought it new. However, when I drive by, I receive professional courtesy from state and city road workers, city maintenance workers, etc: cause my truck looks just like one of their trucks. Have a good day,

Wellmax, ? -001A ? Doesn''t look like a RPO code to me, but I haven''t followed them much since 1996. Not sure what you are asking for in your post. My reply to CharlyG was for a 98 Pickup. Your 2000 is an entirely different animal. Read the following, from "Edmunds Inside Line." The year 1999 was a strange one, as Chevrolet introduced its completely redesigned full-size pickup (and dubbed it Silverado) and yet still offered the "old" style C/K trucks through 2000. Due to their strong popularity and sales figures, Chevy kept the C/Ks around for those truck customers who preferred them to the new Silverado. There were now two trim levels, consisting of the no-frills base truck and luxurious LS, the latter being loaded up like the previous year''s Silverado trim level. There was only one C/K 1500 model available, an LS extended cab, which came with the third door as standard. C/K 2500 and C/K 3500 versions could be had in either trim level and in standard, extended or Crew Cab body styles. A few under-the-skin changes, such as cooling system upgrades and the installment of the 7.4-liter V8''s starter motor on the smaller V8 engines, improved the durability of these trucks whose basic design dated back to 1988. Sounds to me like you have one of the last of the C/K series, since you have a 350. If you had the newer "Silverado" model, you would have a 5.3 or 6.0. Hope that helps... BTW, air bags first became standard on 1/2 tons, and later on 3/4 tons & up. Have a safe and enjoyable 4th.
