im looking at buying a 04 sliverado 2500 2wd auto either has the 6.0 or the 8.1 (this is my first chevy so i dont really know awhole lot about them) with 130,000miles they guy said he gets about 9mpg is there anything i could do to get more mpgs like gears, exhaust, intake. ect  i would like a truck that gets more than 9mpg but for 1,700 i think its a great deal and no there is nothing wrong with it. my moms copany is selling it and it was used for hauling large crates 98% of the miles are highway

my buddies 03 8.1 4x4 with the 5spd allison and 3.73 gears gets like 14-15 almost the same as my truck. go 8.1 if its not an everyday truck, even then go 8.1. my friend 01 6.0 with the 4l80e trans and 4.10 gears 4x4 got like 11 mpg and was slow as crap.

K&N intake and single in dual out 40 series flowmaster is a good way to go. the mpg increase vs cost is not too good, but if you keep the truck for awhile it will eventually pay for itself. next would be a custom tune by someone like Nelson performance. i just ordered mine so i will see how much of a difference it makes.

good luck with your decision

Sounds like a great deal! Go for it.  You could tinker with the gears a little, and then get a cold air intake, headers, and hypertech.  Also watch your tire inflation, it will help alot! Good Luck and Welcome to the world of BowTies!
