G''day ALL! I''m very new to here (like one hour ago). Been looking around the ''net trying and find like-minded folks. Would like to get to know some and ask questions of those who have gone long before me. Hope you''ll be kind and generous.
Since this is day-0ne for me, I haaven''t set up a ''neat'' profile & found an avatar, yet (don''t even know where to look for an avatar). I have questions - hoping to get clarity & answers. Bought the 2008 LTZ, ''loaded'' - more than a month ago.
First trip out I learned that the NAV system (NAV DISC) is ''crappy''. Was approaching decently large cities & wanted to locate hotels/motels. Search came back with "no facilities listed". Had a travel guide with me so I called the hotel-chain''s customer service number & learned hotels/motels did exist nearby; had been in the same location for many years (not new facilities). That got my curious attention!. I then tried to locate Chevrolet (then even GM) dealers in the areas I was near. Got similar results - no dealers nearby. I checked telephone directories, or drove the streets and dicovered dealers very near. Again, I learned these dealers had been in the same location for years; they were not new or were not in new locations! I even checked a well-known amusement park (Six-Flags) and a state park; same result - did not show through the NAV DISC. Upon completing my trip, I returned to the (purchasing) dealer and talked about this disc. I was told a new disc will be available in about a month. By some screwball thinking, owners of model years ''06 & ''07 will get a free copy of the upgraded disc. Since I have an ''08 model, I will be expected to pay $199 for the disc. Needless to say, I am "PO"d that these folks will sell me a vehicle approaching $50,000, will include a crippled, outdated disc in it - knowing in another month+ a new disc will be issued AND they expect me to pay another fee for their poor work on the first disc! Fortunate for me and unfortunate for them, I have a GARMIN GPS unit (it found everything the GM NAVDISC missed) that I can use when I travel. If I desire an extra GPS unit, I''m guessing eBay may be the way to get one for maybe a few $$$ more than the price of the upgrade NAVDISC. At least I''ll have a more reliable navigation system but the inconvenice of the GPS somewhere in the SUT. I have ''vented''. But, my question is ... any ideas from you about a different or perhaps better way to approach this matter?
Anyone know of AVALANCHE gatherings or rallyes?
