1989_Tahoe -> Looking for a factory "Service" Manual (6/28/2008 12:49:34 PM)

Hey Guys,

I just got myself a 1998 Tahoe with the 5.7 Vortec. I''m looking for a factory service manual, so if anyone knows a good place to get one I''d appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

There is this ticking noise (sounds like valves to me) and I''m trying to isolate the source. It''s there all the time but does get better as the engine warms up. I''m looking to adjust the valves but haven''t found anyone whom has done it before. I''ve done loads of engine work before and if you guys have any suggestions for me I would also appreciate them.

Thx

89_Tahoe that''s really a 98[8|]

Techline publishes the factory service manuals on dvd.  They are very good.  They are sold on eBay.

Here''s one of them:

There are always a few of them available on eBay.  Just search on gm dvd techline

Good luck.

Here''s the place that sells the factory manuals: http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.asp?Style=&Mfg=GMC&Make=CHV&Model=TAHO&Year=1998&Category=&Keyword=&Module=&selected%5Fmedia=&mscsid=EWQT1EM65AXQ9PXLCTQBX5HBR4424VQ7

That''s the owner''s manual, not the factory service manual.  Here''s the factory service manual:

http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.asp?Style=helm&Mfg=GMC&Make=CHV&Model=TAHO&Year=1998&Category=1&Keyword=&Module=&selected%5Fmedia=&mscsid=HVX5R39J50NK9JT0T10CQN0L2TLPAD59

and it''s the exact same one that''s on eBay.

How right you are.  Hey it was late.  I guess that means the paper version is no longer available.  [:o]

I think that is correct.  The DVD version is very nice and I think it''s easier to use than the hardcopy.  It covers all GM products for several years, and you just put in your VIN to get to your vehicle''s information.

A little pricey tho at 3X the print version.  And I''d need to get a keyboard membrane to keep the laptop from getting gunked up.
