Good Evening!

Brand new to the forum but need help with a diagnosis on my baby! I have a 2003 Chevy 1500 (5.3L) Z-71. I just replaced all the brake pads all the way around since I had to goto GA for 2 months. I got down here without any problems, but took the truck out this afternoon and smelled that hot brake smell. I got pulled over and checked the fronts which I believe are fine but when i got to the driver side rear the rim, it was very hot to the touch. I poured a little water on the wheel and watched it sizzle right off. Before I pull the rim off I wanted to know if anyone could give me a clue what to look for....

Definately look for a stuck caliper pot.

I am old school,
does this model have disc brakes on rear?

if so then most probably a stuck or sticking caliper.

also could be a rubber brake line that has collapsed inside hose, will allow fluid to flow to brake, but not return.

also could be a bad axle bearing

my money is on caliber as you have recently
worked on brakes, did you lube all slide shafts?

One other possibility is air in that line. Air can act like a spring and store compression in the piston. Did you bleed them when you replaced the pads?

Thanks Again!

I pulled everything apart and took a look and the ponly thing I could find was the rotors had a lip on the outside edge from rust and dirt that was chewing up the brake pads. I replaced the rotors and pads, checked the calipers and everything seems to be working fine now.

I had the same problem with my 2000 Z71.
Turns out dirt and water got into the caliper and it would stick.
I replaced both rear calipers and no problems since.
