A few things come to mind. Does it shift out of 2nd into nothing, or does it stay stuck in 2nd? Depending on the symptom, TV cable broken or maladjusted, low fluid, broken or burned 3-4 clutch plate, something wrong in the valve body.

Sounds like a Throttle valve problem....either the cable or valve is stuck open

Now that the forum is working better, I can explain better. I was thinking that if, while out 4 wheelin'', you tromped on the accelerator, and the throttle valve got stuck in the deepest part of it''s bore, then you might end up with a transmission that wants to always downshift to 1st gear. Seems that it would be easy enough to check....by tugging on the TV cable at the carburetor, there should be the sensation of a spring loaded valve. If there isn''t, then that''s where the problem is. But then I''m just guessin''.

The problem was I went in water over my dipstick tube and the tranny got water in it. I didnt notice cuz I was drivin around if first all day with the water in it. Wehn I got on the road and shifted though the gears it just **** housed itself. I just got it back from the tranny shop this morning it now was a built 700r4 with 3.06 first and a shift kit the t-case was also went through.
