I''ve got a 05 chevy 1500 Z71. I''m in need of a set of tires all around. from factory the truck came with 17''s.

i priced out some nice mudding meats and stock size (265,70,17''s) and it was $1250 compared to the 285,75,16''s on my last truck that were only $900. I figered if i bought a nice set 16''s in the long run after a couple sets of tires it would save me a fair amount of money.

Heres the issue: in the front the 17 inch rim runs a fairly tight clearance to the break calipar. i''m estemating at 1/2-3/4 of an inch. does anyone know if there is enough clearence to down size one rim size? has anyone down this or tryed this?
