Yeah, Biodiesel is growing in popularity like crazy in the Houston area. So bad that people are stealing used cooking oil from fast food joints at night so they can make bio-diesel at home. There have been several articles in the newspaper about it. Used cooking oil is becoming a high commodity. Where used to, Mcdonalds and places like that had to pay somebody to come pump it out, the tables have turned, they are starting to sell it to biodiesel companies. Oh and another intresting thing I read recentley, not trying to bash Chevy or anything, just thought it was intresting. This new "flexfuel" E85 Ethanol, while good for emissions and cheaper and it has some counter points some people may not realize. It takes enough corn to make one gallon of E85 to feed a family of four for a week. Also what ive heard from the people using it is their MPG has gone down. Think about it, its 15% gasoline and 85% Ethanol, it burns hotter and quicker, upside, more horsepower, downside, less MPG. So all in all, cheaper but you end up spending the exact same as you would for regular gas because the of the MPG diffrence. This is just what ive heard from the many people using it. What do you guys think about E85?

It's a stupid idea that automakers have been invested in for the last 30 years.  They can make it from other sources, but they dont want to because its "harder" and costs more, but the production would be more than enough to compensate.  But 30 yrs of R&D costs alot of money to recoup, and they don't want to give up on it.  Theres stuff (butanol) that is made from the came crops as E85, that gives more economy and hp, its cheaper (i believe), completely biodegradeable, can replace GAS completely (or in concentrations), and in most cases without modifications to existing combustion engines.
