I've never been one to belive in a lot of that and never really known anybody that has had a major experience with those kinds of things. But this one time I experienced something thats somewhat close.
I live in Concord NC where there's a lot of history and heritage behind the town, a lot of old civil war battles and real old cotton mills, that sort of stuff. The main street which is Union Street has HUGE houses 150 years and older so of course there's gonna be some stories. I knew a girl who baby sitted for this one family who had a young daugter. One weekend she took me over there cause she had to feed the cats, this particular house sat back off Union Street, it was about a 100 something year old three story house. The standard, complete with the classic creeky wood floors. Anyways we went upstairs to feed the cats and meanwhile she decides to start telling me this inconvienient story about how theres been nights where she baby sat the girl and said she heard the girl laughing and talking to someone. The girl has no sibblings by the way. ( Also the house is pretty dark at the time were in there.) And she said she went up stairs and went in the girls room and asked who shes talking too, the little girl said "her friend". She asked the little girl who her friend was and she said "its the girl who use to live here a long time ago". Needless to say my friend babysitting has been pretty spooked ever since. Now back to us in that same house, across the hall from that little girls room. I'm pretty scared after hearing that story, i'm not gonna lie. She spooked herself by talking about it, so we hurry up and fed the damn cat then started to leave. Well as were heading down the stairs, which leads to the living room, their big t.v. turns on. And what-do-ya-know??, it's white noise?! Scared the living **** out of us. I was actually terrified to be honest. We bolted out of the house and I refused to go back.
My girlfriend lives 3 houses down from there haha, and I gotta go by that house all the time when I go to her house. I hate it.

I am going to go back and read everyone''s stories, but I had to post first. I was never a believer until about 10 years ago. I started working in a residential building in Manhattan and my boss would tell me of ghosts in his apartment. Never thought about it. Then one night I was watching the elevator camera and saw two people on the elevator. When only one exited, I asked tDave, who had exited, who was on the elevator with him. He said no one. I showed him the video of a man standing next to him and he confirmed that no other person was on the elevator with him. Just to confirm that it wasn''t som sort of strange reflection, I made him ride the elevator again and I also did so myself. No other person.
Since then, I have seen numerous ghosts and whatnot at work, but for the past 2 years I have noticed them in my home. There is at least one, but we think there could be as many as three. One smokes. My son, who is 2 will occasionally stop what he''s doing, look "through" us and start laughing as if someone behind us was doing something funny for him. Things have been moved and we''ve smelled fresh cigarette smoke although neither my wife nor I smoke. Most recently, I took a picture of my son and there are spirits in the picture with him. They are not distinct, but they''re there. And no, I do not own photoshop or any other picture editor. It was sheer luck that I caught it on camera.
