99 Blazer Troubles

sluntitled -> 99 Blazer Troubles (5/25/2008 1:23:27 PM)

I've been having overheating issues with my 99 Blazer.  It has 130K Miles. Heater doesn't blow hot air. I've had the system flushed, the heater core flushed, new thermostat, replaced the radiator cap and overflow tank.  Two days ago I replaced the water pump (after having replaced it just over a year ago) and today it died on me.  I'm not much of a mechanic and need some advise.  I'm trying to get it Trade Ready so I can get out from underneath all the repairs. It has become a money pit!  Last night my wife drove it and when she got home it wouldn't start.  I tried it later that night and it started and ran, but sounded like it was bogging down.  Today it started, ran for about 3 miles and started to overheat again!  It died at a stop light and I had to push it down the street where it still sits.  I noticed that the overflow tank was really low, but was too hot for me to check the radiator and I had to get to work.  I didn't have any problems with it starting or running until a day after I changed the water pump.  What's wrong?

I'm thinking a gasket. Either intake manifold gasket or head gasket.

Thanks for your response!

Would my replacing the water pump have contributed to the gaskets going out?  It just seems so sudden.

Sounds like you have 2 problems....a  plugged radiator, and maybe a bad ign module.

Turns out all the back and forth overheating caused a crack somewhere in my engine.  The coolant has mixed with the oil! Hooray!  Anybody want a Blazer for cheap?

Tomorrow I'm draining the oil and coolant.  Was planning on using a block sealer to see if I could remedy the problem.  I've got a book (I've had this truck for four years) and it seemed that changing the head gasket was pretty complicated. Maybe I was reading up on the wrong part. It's been known to happen.  Thanks for the reply!
