Here's my dilemma: I have an '81 C10 1/2 ton 2wd pickup I'm restoring and as part of my project, I'm wanting to make it rear disc with a posi or TruTrac. The cheapest way I've found to do this is to swap in a complete rear axle from a newer pickup, but they're all six-lug as opposed to my old 5 on 5. What I was looking at doing was swapping the rotors up front to 6 lug from a 3/4 ton, but I'm not sure what else I'd have to change. I'm sure the spindles would have to go which is nothing because those are included with the lowering kit going on the truck. Will the 3/4 ton spindles fit on 1/2 ton ball joints? If not, will the 3/4 ton ball joints work in 1/2 ton control arms? Or what about swapping 5 lug axles into the newer carrier? Is that even worth looking into with the old 5 on 5 pattern? Any ideas or knowledge I can get on this is awesome and greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
