Shawn, Not really an evolution, the message "TIGHTEN GAS CAP" will display if the tank fails the pressure test even if it is caused by a faulty sensor or seal, but that is very rare, 99.9% of the time it is a loose gas cap. The DIC message came about due to the fact that a vast majority of the SES lights triggered were caused by loose gas caps; GM engineers came up with this message to save customers a trip to the dealership only to be told the gas cap was not tight.
