IHA 1997 Chevy Malibu 2.4L in which the AC compressor is not kicking on. I checked the 10Amp fuse - good. THere is a bus for the compressor under the hood on teh drivers side. How can I tell if it's good? It has four prongs. Is there a way to test it? The AC had never been charged. Over the last 3three years it started to get less adn less cool. I assumed the compressor wasn't kicking in as a safety feature when the coolant gets too low. I filled the coolant to about 35 PSI. Still not kicking in. Ideas?

The only problem with filling the ac system to "35PSI", is that you can have 5oz of 134a at 35PSI, or 30oz of 134a at 35PSI. Regardless of what these bottles of freon may say, if the a\c system is empty, you need to add 28oz or 1.75lbs(not PSI) of R134a. You also need to add 9.5oz of PAG Refrigerant Oil or you could be experiencing compressor failure in the very near future. Untill you add this amount, or at least close to this amount, the a\c system may not work as there is not enough freon in the system
