Just bought a new 2007 Silverado 2500 hd.  I absolutely HATE this gigantic wheel well with way too much space with these little LT245 75 r16.  But I just love a Chevy...  Anyway I can tell right now I need to put bigger tires on there.  I know the P265 is an option for that truck.  But I just dont know how they will look, or in other words, if they will be big enough to fill that gap.  Was thinking about P285.  Anyone out there know if they are too big?  How much bigger is the P265 and P285 versus the LT245?  Also, If I go up in size, does any reprogramming have to be done and will it have any adverse effect on the power train.  I have the 6.0 engine,  3.73 with locking rear and the trailering package with tranny cooler if that will help. I deffinately agree the tires are too small. 285/75/16 tires should fit on there I know a couple of people run that size on a 2500. You didnt mention if you have 4 wheel drive though. If it is 2 wheel drive you will prob have to level the front. Also I dont know how the new ones are but my 01 HD came with 6.5 inch wide rims and that tire size is pretty wide for such a skinny rim. I put Mickey Thompson 17x9 Classic II rims and goodyear wrangler silent armors 275/70/17 on mine. I know a couple people runnin 285/75/16 on the stock rims though and they say its fine. If you go to tires.com and at the bottom click tire info then click on tire calculator you can type in your size tire and then what size you want to run and it will tell the difference in height, width, speed, and rpms.Good luck

Sorry....yes, it is 4x4.  I am so used to other 4x4 web sites that I always assume everyone knows I have a 4x4.  Came to this site because I wanted an accurate opinion.....the 4x4 sites will just say..."Yeah Dude, jack her up with 35 -12.50, she'll fit, trust me, I know cause my buddy Randy had a friend who lives in Hawaii who once dated a girl who had an exboyfriend put those on there and they worked fine."

i would think that 285/75/16 will fit stock. my friend was able to get 295/75/16 on his 01 2500 with a front leveling kit. man did it look great.

when my stock 265 die i will upgrade to 285

Well again, I am not really too concerned with whether or not they fit as I am the adverse effect on the drive train.  So I am looking to find the tire size thats big enough to not have the truck look so weird while maintaining as close to original specs as I can.  I am not sure with all of the advanced computer stuff if I have to go to the dealer and have them reprogram anything AT ALL.  They came with P265 as an option, I just dont know if when it came from the factory if they automatically programmed anything for the P265 versus the Lt245 I have now.

you are going to notice a difference in pulling power and pickup if you go with the 285's. if you go with the 285's i would change the rear end out to a 4.10 i have a 06 siera with a 5.3 that oringally had a 3.23 rear end with 245 70 r 17 and i decided to put 20s on it 275 55 r20 if i would have not changed the rear axle out it would have been slow as s**t and i would have lost 4miles to the gallon. i get 21 plus mpg and plenty power. bottom line if go more than 2 sizes bigger i would change the ratio

I have a 2002 2500HD 2wd xcab 6.0l 4.10gears, and when the stock LT245 tires wore out, I put on a set of LT265 a/t tires. They look soo much better and I didn't have to raise the front to keep them from rubbing. The only problem I have is the speed o meter is not correct. I think it is off about 3 mph. I was told by the local chevy dealer that it can be corrected if I purchase a programmer (hypertech or some other brand) and reprogram the computer. 

Your odometer is the only thing that will have to be reprogrammed when switching from LT245 to LT265 tires and I would bet that the dealer has already done that. You might want to check with them to make sure.
