I assumed my 2008 Silverado had keyless entry as a standard feature, until I bought it & my salesman handed the keys over.
Question: I have a keyless pad from 07 avalanche i previously owned, and truly miss. Is it possible chevy dealer or I myself can program it for my '08 silverado. Is there a receiver already present for the remote signal? I tried to prog myself but only procedure could find was for 00-05 chevrolets. It seems a receiver for keyless entry should be present because onstar can unlock, turn on your headlights and blow horn for u all the way from Canada.
I believe Chevrolet may be taking some things away from the assumed standard features. MSRP is the same but sales price looks better.

Welcome to the forum!!! Your truck should be prewired for keyless entry, the olny problem is that the truck needs to be reprogamed by the dealer to enable the feature. Take look as this thread, http://www.chevroletforum.com/m_67437/tm.htm

I also assumed that my new 2008 WT had keyless. It did not.  The dealer said no problem to install.  They installed an aftermarket system.  It works great, but leads me to believe the trucks are not pre-wired.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still confused as to how onstar can remote unlock if its not prewired. Will try to contact dealer within the next week to see what I need to do. Will post any info I get about keyless entry and remote start

It will be a no-go on installing OEM keyless and remote start.
The reason Onstar can trigger the locks is that it uses an encoded digital signal sent via the cellular communication side and decrypted by the Onstar module, this has nothing to do with the RF signal used by the RKE transmitters.
