My sis has a '02 impala 3.8l.. This evenig it started steaming under the hood, Well being the good big bro' that I am, Iwent to check it out. I saw coolant on the right side of the engine, but couldn't find where it's coming. After about a hour of searching I found it Under the alternator running through the tensioner, a little black hose. All I want to know is what kind hose is it and how hard is it to replace.

Is it coming from the hose? or from the pipe that the hose attaches to? A lot of these engines have the pipe corrode and break off. They are plastic from the factory and there is a steel replacement available for it. If it snaps off flush with the intake, then it can be a bugger to get it out. You have to use an easy-out to try and remove the broken piece. If it is cooperating, you can get it without removing the intake, but most times you end up pulling the intake off to fix it properly.

Thanks shawnvw, It's leaking from the plastic elbow coming from the intake going to the tensioner and yes it broke on both ends.

Yep, they were wrong. The dealer was trying sell me both pipes for $15.00, went to a local parts store and got both @ $2.37. If you're ever in the triangle area look for ( WALKER AUTO PARTS ). It's found in help section, heater hose fitting #47065.
