kobrak -> 93 burb fuel tank FYI (4/20/2008 4:58:52 PM)

Most of you with older Sub's might have already discussed this to death, but here it goes again. My fuel pump finally went out at 245k. So after giving the bolts that hold the straps a good **** of wd, I had the chance to drop the tank today. Once I got the bolts out I dropped the tank and removed the plastic cover. I found a mess;( It ends up the plastic cover held about 15 years of salt and sand. Yup.............ends up my tank is shot. I have sepage along the drivers side of the tank. I think the only reason for the cover is to keep rocks from hitting it? Next time your sub is low on petro, and you feel like doing some preventive maintenance, I would drop the darn thing and clean this plastic cover out! I am also thinking I am not going to put the plastic cover back on, just make some rubber strips to go between the tank and the straps.
