Started hearing a ticking noise from the engine over the last 3 months. Got a call from the mechanic on this bulletin, stating that the O-ring seal between the pump screen and the oil pump may be cut. This bulletin id's the problem and the fix. However it calls for 2 - 2.5 hrs of labor. Mechanic is saying the repair will run about $900 to fix. Anyone get this problem fixed and what was your cost? ALso, can you drive it without causing further damage? Thanks a Mil,

Mil,It is highly likely that this TSB does not apply to your problem, the noise they describe is almost always present from the day the vehicle is built. But if your dealer is asking for $900 for this repair they are excessive and I would find another shop, the parts associated with this repair total less then $5 Depending on the number of miles and overall upkeep of your motor it may be more reasonable to suspect a calapsed lifter.

Thanks ZX, I can't remember hearing the noise for more than a couple of months. Did a check with a local Chevy dealer and they were not sure if the differnetial needed to be removed to access the oil pan as this mechanic states. Looks like he might be trying to get me for a few hours of labor. 'Preciate It
