My trip to the junkyard...

EvansBlue -> My trip to the junkyard... (4/7/2008 10:38:45 AM)

Well, since today is a teacher workday, I decided to go to the junkyard to look for some parts for my Blazer and the Toyota.

I went to LKQ in Garner. I paid the two dollars to walk around in the yard and see what they had. They had lots of 1st generation Blazers and Jimmys and a couple of Bravadas, looked for some 2nd gen stuff and they had a 95 Blazer a 97 Jimmy an an 02 Envoy that was stripped to the frame.... well, so much for finding mirror sun visors and drivers window switches! Looked around for some S-10s and Sonomas as well, but no 2nd gens at all. That was unbeleivable. They didn't seem to have hardly anything.

Giving up on my search for the Blazer, I went to look for things for my Toyota. I needed a new bumper, valance, and left side fender. They had 3 toyota trucks in the year range that I could use. two of them were front-end collision vehicles, the other was in such bad shape (rusted), I wasn't going to bother with it.

I took a look in the Chrysler section for some Jeep parts that Dad needed and they had 3 CJ5s and 1 CJ7, so I was able to rob some control knobs and two door latches and bought them for 2 bucks.

I just bought a spoiler from LKQ over the phone and hopefully it will be a good choice. Its for my malibu. Just yards around here kind suck too because there are no newer cars. I usually like to try and find rare features and equipment but they aren't be totaled out I guess.

most junkyards i have seen will tell you if they have that kind of vehcle in the yard. this one yard when i was in nashville had comptuer set up with a price/parts list and what&where that type of vehcle is.

I cant believe they charged you to just get in?

Yeah. Being that its a pick-n-pull junkyard, a lot of the things you may need could fity in your pocket. They charge you two bucks and tell you basically that anything you can fit in your pocket is yours.
