Hey, Just last week I got a new 5.3 CrewCab 4x4.  Love it...except, when going slow...parking lot, stop and go traffic i hear a fairly noticable creak from the front end, its got only 450miles.  I can cause it by slowing and stopping making the truck lurch, or turning when the truck wants to shift its weight.  I took it by the dealer and the mechanic heard it too.  His reports from GM say that it might be the after market step tubes.  His notice stated to remove them and see if sound persists, then change the brackets.  Something to do with frame flex.  I don't think its that and they plan on placing microphones to try and find it.

Anyone else have this problem?
Any ideas?  To me it sounds like it could be brake related...who knows?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

I had the same problem. It was the nerf bars. Had to adjust them a little and it went away. I have a clunk from the tranny or rear end though that GM cant seem to fix.

Thanks Matador...what was the adjustment to the bars?  The dealer had some info about a bracket change.

Actually I had bought these bars at a rummage sale for 15 bucks and I had to make the brackets and one of them rubbed just a tad. You cant believe how much noise a little bit of frame movement can make when it barely rubs on the support bracket that I had made. I took a grinder and shaved it a hair and it was perfect after wards, no noise what so ever.

You may just need to grease the rubber a little or something. I have heard of them making noise too. It doesnt take much movement in to cause it.

Matador, have you had your dealer lubricate the splines on the output shaft?  The yoke on mine was binding during hard to moderate braking causing a clunking and popping noise.

I have talked to a couple of new owners that have had that problem.

JLM6740,
Yes I had it grease once but its still doing it and maybe getting worse.

And I was running it in auto 4wd and when it starting off from a dead stop, I felt and heard gear noise that went away after a second or two of aceleration.
