Ok well there is a 1994 Chevy 2500 that I could get my hands on for cheap but it has 2 problems. The motor burns oil (bad) and it needs a paint job. Now I'm not so worried about the paint. What I wanted to know was if you could could tell me what my options are for a new motor for this year of chevy with the TBI??? It has an auto tranny too. Also I was wondering if anyone has just swaped in a caurburated 350 into these pickups, if so was it all that hard to do??? Id really like to get the pickup but as is it doesnt have enough power to do what I need and I would like to be able to get a setup in it that has around 300hp if thats even possible with the TBI setup? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!!! What motor is in it now a 350? I would go have a shop rebuild it and keep TBI, carbs (in my experience) have alwats been a pain in the rear, but its all in personal preference.

Sorry about that, yes it is a 350 with 123,000 on the clock. Doenst seem to run rough or anything it just goes through a ton of oil and on steep grades it will start cutting out. Not really a fan of computer controlled motors and I don't really know if the TPI setup will respond well to modifications such as exhaust, cams and whatnot like a carburated motor would. But my basic plan is for 300hp and I was just wanting to know if that is even realistic with this motor?

Do you live where they do emissions testing? If you do then you may no choice but to keep the TBI system to meet emissions regulations.

That TBI motor will accept modification just fine, it basically is a carbuerated motor but with two fuel injectors on top. Only difference in that motor from an older style is it's a 1 piece rear main seal, and it might be a hydraulic roller cam setup, but I could be wrong. It won't be hard to rebuild at all. http://shop.enginekits.com/osb/itemdetails.cfm?ID=516 That should be the kit for your motor to rebuild it. I agree that carbueration is a whole lot simpler and easier to deal with, but with the TBI you get better cold start ups and slightly better fuel economy. With the TBI it's still real basic, egr system but no smog pump, and just the bare minimum with sensors and wiring. Those year model trucks, when chevy shipped the fuel tanks over here they were lined with something and over the years it breaks down and clogs the fuel pump, so fuel pumps are bad prone to going out early. At least thats what i've heard and experienced. Throw you a factory oil pump and timing chain set in when you rebuild and it will last forever.

Back to buying it though... Is it an extended cab? 4 wheel drive? How much are they asking for it? If the transmission is a 4L60E i've heard that if you tow a lot with the truck they tend to wear out fairly early. How's the fluid look and smell after you've driven it around? FYI: Pop the glove box open and check for these codes; Motor: L03-5.0L, L05-5.7L, L19-7.4L Transmission: MD8-4L60 auto, M30-4L68E auto, MT1-4L80E auto, MY2-5 Speed, M20 4-Speed Gear: GU6-3.42, GT4-3.73, GT5-4.10 Hope some of this helps, unless you already knew this.

Well I emailed edelbrock and they said with their Performer System I could expect around 270hp and trying to get any more could cause driveability problems. I do agree the TBI setup is sure nice for cold starts and just plain old driving but dang... carbs are still nice and simple. No dang computers (I HATE COMPUTERS!)

well off the coads you gave me its got the 5.7 (knew that) the 4L80E tranny and 4.10's all nice to know. Don't know anything about trannys but I take it the 4L80E is an electronically controlled tranny?
