I have a 2002 impala with over 162k miles. Recently the wipers have become stuck in the up position, the radio speakers no longer work and there is no door chime. I have read that for the wipers, it could be the home position tab near the wiper motor. How do the wipers come off in order to be able to check that tab. I removed the nut on the wiper arm, but still could not remove the wipers. Hate to have to go to the garage just for a bent tab. For the radio speaker sound and door chime, I've read that it might be the trunk mounted amp. Any other suggestions or does that sound familiar to anyone here? Thanks in advance!!

If you have an amp, it will be in the trunk between the rear speakers. Try removing the connectors for a minute, then hooking them back up. Also might try pulling the radio out, and test the speaker leads for a grounded wire, This condition will shut-down the outputs from the radio to prevent damage

Hi, I'm new to this one, but have an 00 with 88K, and do most of my own work. I had to remove the cowl to check my wiper motor and linkage for damage after my wife reamed one of the wiper arms out by not removing enough ice. So, I had to remove the good one and it wasn't easy, but if you remember that there's a lot of spring tension trying to hold the blade against the windshield, and work the base of the arm by rocking it, it comes off. Problem is, once you get the cowl off, you basically have to disassemble the motor-linkage assembly inside the cowl to remove any of it from the car. Hopefully you can find the problem without having to do that, and I believe you need a special tool for it. The chime is fed by the radio through one of the front speakers(driver's door, I think). You might just have a wire terminal off at the speaker, pinched the wire(s) somewhere around the speaker, or a bad speaker. Particularly with that many miles on the car. If you don't have any luck with them, I have a set of factory manuals which are of some help at times. Let me know if you need further help.
