I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado, The truck came with a nasty chrome cap over the tailgate. I bought the black oem tailgate cap from the dealer. But I need to find the torx screws that belong in there. Can anyone give me some help on that or a part #?

best thing i can tell you if you dont want a box of theme get them from the dealer ,i have a 2500hd and it had the smothe plastic cap the gate is a bear cat to lift up so a put the 1500 wale tail shaped stock cap on it and had to get the screws and the crimped threaded insert's from the dealer it was easer this way .

Hey Old dog, if you don't mind me asking, how much did they charge you for the 1500 whale tale cap and screws? I am thinking about doing the same to my 2500HD.

well i got the cap as a take off when they took it off because they put a topper on a 1500 and then you have to put the smoothe one from a 2500 to get it to be able to close the topper door ,i think they sell for about $35.00 you can get them after market also i think . had about $5.00 in hardware  the hardest thing was making a mandrel with metric threads to crimp the nuts  with a plus nut crimper.in the tailgate the holes were square set on edge like a diamond i think .you might get lucky and the nuts might be there already or the dealer might crimp them in for you . the smothe one's are held on with double sided tape .

Thanks for the welcome. I had to find a new forum since I traded my ford for this truck. I went to one of the dealerships here and they just gave me the dimensions and said they didint have any. I really wanted the torx screws not just some phillips chrome ones from lowes. Theres a couple other Chevy dealerships here in town. Ima go check them out tomorrow.

The cheapest way would be to go to Ace hardware and grab a few screws from the screw isle.  They will let you take them outside to see which one will fit best and then you can buy just as many as you need.  Then it will only cost you a couple bucks.
