I just recently purchased a 1996 gmc sierra, and the front seats are all worn out. it is the basic SL model with the 60/40 bench. I want to install a newer seat which has the middle fold down console which can fold back up into a seat, along with the reclining feature. As mine is the striaght bench right across with out any of these features. I was wondering how newer of a seat can i install into the cab, as to i have a bad back and would like to get the most recently designed seat chevy makes as possible egronimically wise. I was told by a dealer 96 to 98 truck seats are compatible, and by a auto wrecking yard 88-98 all truck seats are compatiable. Is there any chance that a 03 or even a 02 seat would be able to fit in this truck because i have recently sat in one and those seats are very comfortable. anyones input on this matter would be greatly much appreciated because my truck is going to be out of the shop next week and the hunt for a better seat will begin thank you for your time.

My guess would be that the 88(or 96 as it were)-98 seats have the same track and bracket, but they changed the tracks for the new models, I'm sure you can find a company (locally) that would modify the brackets to fit your truck with the newer seats (like maybe just buying the newer seats and drilling new mounting holes?)  But as far as a straight swap, I doubt it.  As far as ordering goes, you might wanna try gmpartscheaper.com.  It looks like the dont have the seat assembly in stock, but they might be able to get it, it also seems that you can get the seats that recline, with the lumbar support.  You might be able to buy alot of the parts seperately from them (release cable, recliner arm, recliner, lumbar support, etc.  All of which seem to be in stock, and if you click on the "view illustration" you can get a general idea of how everything goes together)

I have a old style 2000 model chevy 3/4 ton and I also would like to update the std seat.

What I have found is that seats out of 1995-1998 chevy/gmc trucks will fit our trucks with no problems.

Check these seats out:  Both are currently on ebay, I have been following seats on ebay for some time, but a little pricy
for me with shipping.
I have looked in local scrap yards and never found any seats like these that were in good shape.
Believe these will fit your truck.
