can any one tell me exactly what the PROM does on the ECU on a 92 corvette i got a new ECU and i have to use the old PROM and before i do so i would like to know what the prom does thanks

Its basically a computer chip that hold info on your motor\tranny, It gives the ecm info on how to adjust things like air\fuel ratio, how to comprehend the various sensors, take the data and make the motor run correctly.

Welcome to the Corvette forum. Just be sure you are grounded before you remove the PROM from the old ECU and put it in the new one to prevent static damage.

PROM stands for Programable Read Only Memory just to let you know, it keeps information concerning how you drive and how the engine runs.
