94 S-10, hard shift from 1st to 2nd

When I take off from a stop, my (automatic) transmission seemingly "jerks" into 2nd. And once it does it seems to loose some power, and i have to give it more gas to get up to speed. My fluid is full, and is in good condition. No burnt smells. This has been the way it is since I have owned it, and just seemed to get used to it, but wondering if there was something to blame for it. The truck kind of need a tune up, and sometimes is a little sluggish, but not bad for its age. Any thoughts or similar problems?
