I bought a Sony cd player with "HD" radio and installed it in my truck. Everything works great, but how does the "HD" feature work? Is it just automatic? Also I think it's my antenna but I just don't get that good of reception as I was hoping for. It's a 1994 chevy 2500. Anybody got some info on the whole "HD" deal? I'm an idiot, i'm up with all the new technology like I should be.

HD radio is a feature thats broadcasted over the air kinda like XM or Sirius, except it comes from your local radio stations. Its broadcasted on a diffrent frequency and requires a tuner to recieve the signal. The result is CD quality sound from your FM reciever. If your radio came with the tuner built in, you dont need to buy anymore special equipment. Read your manual on how to access the HD channels, each radio is diffrent. Also, each geographical area is diffrent. Some cities may have more HD channels than others and some rural locations may offer none. Since its free, its up to the radio station wether or not they want to pay for the additional equipment to broadcast in HD. Hope this helps.

Also remember, if you live in an area that doesn't have hd stations, you won't be able to pick them up or even tune to them. an example of one that runs around my area: station is 101.1fm They accually have 2 hd channels so i have to tune to 101.1.1 or 101.1.2 fm.

Ohh ok, well I live just outside of Charlotte NC and I really don't pick anything up at all(anything special that is). It might just be that the antenna on my truck is just weak, I dunno. I think I threw the manual away when I bought it haha, I'll have to check. As long as it picks up John Boy and Billy in the mornings i'm fine, and it does. Thanks for the help
