I have a 2002 Checy impala 6cl (not the hi performace engine). I have 107,000 miles on it and I have regularly changed the oil, and other required maintence.

I have and have expected to replace some things so far like- struts, springs, tires, brakes, an o2 sensor (obviously tires), and front wheel bearings.

How long do these cars run before catastrophic failures?

I like the car and the fuel econony (I get about 28 in the winter and about 30 in the summer) and the fact that it is paid for.

The car runs well and aside from the exhaust getting a little loud it needs nothing at this time.

Are there sleeping giants (repairs) in it that these are known to have certain problems. It does and always has gone through a little anti-freeze (I read the manifold leaks a little on these). No big deal I have used 1 gallon in 107,000 miles.

Replies appreciated.

Good day!!!

I have an 02 with 162k miles on it. Nothing too serious so far. At the moment, working on windshield wipers stuck in the up position and the radio speakers and door chime no longer working.  I've also seen the turn signals not come on, but by pressing the hazard light switch, they then begin working. *intermittant issue*

other than the little things, the car keeps going... still getting over 26 mpg. With the V6, I'm not complaining too much while working on the little things

I have an 04 (Supercharged) but it has 90k + on it.

Over 100 runs at the drag strip (13.4 @ 104mph on street tires), 3 sets of tires, 3 sets of brakes and a few modifications later, I have only broke the flex plate probably due to the torque this baby is putting out!  Mobil 1 and change the fluids.  Other than that, my only complaints are with the Pass Lock system that is screwed up and the gauges that went crazy right after the warranty went out.  They were easily fixed with new motors behind each gauge from eBay for $50 and my 12 yr old changed them out.

Seems to be a solid car with lots of room.  Can't think of anything else in this price range I would want right now.

Most cars today can get between 200K and 300K easily with routine maintenance done on them and not abusing the drivetrain. It should go for a very long time. Do check about the intake gasket though for these cars have had a problem with them.
