best rear ends? - 3/6/2008 6:37:59 PM    2tallcustomz   Posts: 83 Joined: 3/6/2008 Status: offline     i am building a custom truck. i am starting out with a 1970 c10 long bed step side. what i am doing is i am going to put a 4/6 drop on it. drop a diesel motor in it and i am going to put two dually axles in the rear, both driven. what i am wondering is what would be the best rear end i could put behind there that will hold up to a lot of torture. it will doing a lot of towing and will have a lot of power going through it. if anyone can help i would appreciate it < Message edited by 2tallcustomz -- 3/6/2008 6:38:32 PM > Post #: 1

Don't use GM rear-ends. They don't make them to hold up to the stress of pulling (i.e. tractor/sled pull). Start with a google search for heavy duty dually rear-ends and see what that gets you. You may have to step up to something thats made by International, Mack or Volvo if you are doing extreme stuff. RE: best rear ends? - 3/7/2008 1:31:17 PM    2tallcustomz   Posts: 83 Joined: 3/6/2008 Status: offline a lot of fabrication, there is enough room if i take out the fender wells and do alot of welding and cutting. as far as the drop goes i am hoping to do a supsension/ spring drop, but i may end up c notching the frame and bagging it. RE: best rear ends? - 3/7/2008 2:12:47 PM    2tallcustomz   Posts: 83 Joined: 3/6/2008 Status: offline one other option i have been thinking about in Dana makes a tandem axle set up for big rigs. it would be mass conversion going through the truck. but it would not be too terribly hard. i could easily through that set up under there with a 6.6L duramax and allison transmission. and then all i would have to do is set up the brake system for air brakes instead of dot3. a little bit of time but i could get it to work (in reply to 2tallcustomz) Post #: 8
