well, it seems as though your trans is getting bad. but, when you changed the fluid did you change the filter? do you have the right amount of fluid back in it? it is a 4speed, i believe all j cars after 96 or 97 had a 4 speed (i think) but anyways you may have an internal tranny problem! i would suggest taking it to a trans shop, anyone in that line of work should know pretty quick if it's a clutch pack inside, or something else really quick. (of course they will want you to leave it there for repair, but just tell them you want an estimate for now) then compare the price of repair versus swapping trannys

depends where u take
trannys are expensive to work on
try to get two qoutes before letting someone fix it
its hard to give u a price
one place could say u need a new tranny
which could be up to 2 grand
or another place could just fix it
maybe a couple hundred bucks
its hard to give a price on trannys
theres so much to a automatic

good luck

I worked with a transmission guy for a couple weeks and he said most of the time you just have to end up pulling them and tearing into to see what's the problem. Not sure if this is true but my guess is if you took it to a trans shop then their going to want to pull the trans out or at the very least drop the pan to look.
