As soon as I hit the gas, its a clanging noise in the rearend or transmission.  It's almost sounds like maybe the differentials are locking in a hair late after the truck gets moving.  Just sounds like metal on metal clainging together like somethings locking in.  Anybody have any insight on this, or had this particular problem?

What kind of truck is it, how many miles are on it, what year is it, is it 4wd?  Is it a continuous noise or just as soon as you hit the gas?  When the vehicle is moving and your not accelerating does it still make the noise?  Chances are it is in the differential like you think.  A lot of times the lash or clearance between the gears get too far apart and smack together making the noise you described.  A lot of f-bodys with the weak 7.5", 7.625" rearend did that.

Its a 2006 chevy z71 with 28,000 on it.  It just makes that one clang, but then after that its fine.  It's not clanging around when I'm just driving, just when I hit the gas from a stand still.

It's nothing with your transmission then, and thats the main thing.  I wouldn't be too woried about it really, just annoying.

Our 06 does that too, we have the Traction Control so I was thinking it could be something related but I dont know if this type of TC works with controling engine RPMs or transmission lockup.

I mean I've seen some vehilces with TC that you can tell the exhaust sounds muffled when you try to spin the wheels but our seems like its controled in the drivetrain to keep the wheels from slipping.

Well I guess its normal then.  You'd think you spend $30,000 on a truck and it would be sound, but I guess not.

It's not really that it's not sound, just some vehicles are made like that.  It's a truck, they're gonna make noises and have a stiff ride.  It's like the people who buy a vette and complain that it rides ruff.  But I agree, you'd think if you spent 30k it shouldn't do that...

We took our 06 in for a front windshield seal and steering column noise and mentioned the clunking sound from the Diff so they reporgramed the control module with updated software. Its only been two days since so I cant reply as to it being fixed or not but if your still under a warranty you might ask about the software update.

BTW if you have steering column noise have them check that too, seems to be another character flaw along with the windsheild noise.

The Tech comments on our service sheet say this: Checked TSB and PIS, found 08-07-30-010, programed with updated software, warranty code 10BB2.
