Recently i was driving to work & coming to a stop light & I noticed my Low oil pressure light was displayed on my 1999 Silverado 5.7 w/ 110,000 miles on it. I looked at the
gauge & it was at 10 & droped to Zero as I stopped & felt like it was gonna stall.
as i started driving again it rose back to about 35 & came back to 20 as I drove.
It keeps doing this, except when its cold it doesnt get below 20 , at idle its fine but is still low. As soon as it gets warm the same thing happens.

Any ideas whah I should look into ? oil level is fine & recently changed.
any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

welcome to the forum bud, um worse case scenario it could be the crankshaft bearings or oil pump is bad.

Is there anyway of inspecting to see what it is or do i just start by putting a new pump in ? (the cheaper route first)

um cheap way would be to drop the oil pan and inspect everything underneath.. that way u will be able to really see if there is any metal in the pan and on the pick up tube screen.

could mean that u spun a bearing. um the bearings are wearing out or the crankshaft is wearing out. u just dont want to find any metal in your pan

Well just what u said I didnt want happeded. I drained the oil & on the plug was metal shavings. So i started to take the skid plate off to remove the oilpan.
is there anything i need to worry about when dropping the pan (The Tube) ?

Once I have the Pan off where do I go from here ?

In case you havent noticed I've never done this but have always wanted to learn & I now have the time.

Thanks again for the help !

take the bolts off the pan and see if u can get it out without jacking the motor up. watch out for the pick up tube dont break it and then inspect it and see what the metal shavings were from, hopefully it messed up a bearing and not the crankshaft..

this job would be really hard for beginners, but i and im sure other people will help you through the steps, let us know when u have the oil pan off or any other question k bud?

Before you rip the engine apart, you might want to check the oil pressure sending unit to see if it's accurate.  Probably is since you said the engine was stalling, but worth checking.  Also when you get in there, it may be as simple as a stopped up filter on the oil pickup.  Check that too.
