Has anyone done duel batteries in the truck...I have an 08 av and my friend who helped me with my trailer brake connection said it is a good idea. i was just wonder what is involved and what is needed. He has 2 guage wire that i can use and I have a battery. He said all i need is to bring the truck to him with the battery and cables (with the connections) and he can connect them up for me. Is there anything else i need? I believe i need a batery retainer so it doesnt move around in the other battery compartment. If so, does anyone recooment a retainer?

So basically what I have to do the job as for parts is:

battery
2 guage wire (black and red) with connections
battery retainer (maybe?)

anything else i might need...im not sure at all since i think my truck has that alternator that stops charging when the batter doesnt need it as well as run down protection...

just let me know if im on the right track.

thanks

unless you have a lot of accessories in your truck that are hard on the electrical system, or if you like camping and sit with the radio on with the engine off all the time, you don't really need 2 batteries.
If you really want to do it, it is certainly not going to hurt anything, in fact, the truck will start with less effort, and the charging system will have to work less. Although if one of the batteries goes dead, it can accually cause the other to go dead as well if not caught in time

do i really need an isolator or a solenoid or just connecting them in parallel will do the job well? any ups and downs to having a simple parallel system vs a isorlator vs a solenoid?

Try this post.  A member bought all the parts and had GM install.
