Benrock05201 -> 1998 Suburban starting problem (8/15/2006 9:10:07 AM)

I just bought a 1998 Suburban and I'm having a starting problem. I turn the key nothing happens. If I move the shifter to neutral I still get nothing. But if I rock it and play with the shifter enough I can get it to start sometimes. Can anyone help me out? TIA.

it my be that the linkige is out of wack do you have problems with the key goming out as well or just the starting? it also may be that you are rocking it enuf that you are afecting somthing else that may cuse it to start after a while. does it ack like a dead battery?

The batteries seem to be OK. I replaced the park/neutral switch last nite to no avail. It still won't start. Could the starter be getting hung up on the torque convertor? I have no key problems the car just won't crank.

Does it make a noise at all when you turn the key? If it still thinks it's in gear it won't make any noises at all.

No noise what-so-ever. I have tried the park/neutral switch ( both replacement and adjustment), starter relay, checked ignition switch wiring, checked all the fuses that relate to the engine cranking. I am going to try the starter tonite unless someone has any other suggestions.

Dispite the popular opinion it was the starter. I fixed it this afternoon. Thank you to everyone who offered up suggestions.
