My 96 blazers engine is about to go. What is a good drop in replacement engine. I would like more power like a 8 cylinder or maybe a diesel. Is there any engines that are diesel or 8 cylinder that will be easy to do to this. Also it is a RWD. I know if you have the time anything and money anything can be done, but I am trying to make it simple. Just some feedback on any possibilities, if it is hard that I will drop in the same type engine. Any good place to look for a low engine motor with good prices.

Diesel will be a bitch to say the least. A 350 has been done, a 327 has been done as well.

http://www.s10v8.com/  Check out this site. It has all you need including headers, mounts, and a manual to tell you how to do it.

Thanks for the information. I have another question my friend has a blazer engine for a 95 has said some will not fit do to the VIN code it has to be a certain one between the different engines is this true or is he talking about that it is a 95 with OBD1. If this is the case will a OBD1 engine hook up to OBD2.

No. you can mix and match diagnostic systems. You cant swap an engine from a 95 into anything 96+ without MAJOR modifications.

im looking into a V8 swap for my jimmy 2 door and im looking at doing a 96- newer vortec 350.  THe s10 v8 website has alot of good stuff for it like the previous post says. in addition some of the wiring harness components you may need for your application can be found at http://www.currentperformance.com/.  they have some harnesses for 4.3 to 5.7 swaps and can even make you a custom one if you need i beleive
