ok, well i have impala 02 with an air flow issue. i installed an air intake setup w/ k&n cone filter, the engine began to sound pretty favorable but now after three days or so i now have less horsepower than i had stock before the install, more then half the power is gone. it will barely accelerate from the line and couldn't really make it up a slight incline. whats the problem i need to get this taken care of. thanks in advance to anyone who can get me threw this

It may not be the airflow at all.

Usually the K&N filters are over oiled when coming out of the factory. This is to make sure that all the fibers are thouroughly covered before it goes onto a motor. First im sorry to say i would take the filter out and throw some light powdery dirt on it yes im telling you to dirty your shiny new part. This is needed to remove the excess oil. Then go to you local auto store and get some electrical parts cleaner and spray your mass air flow make sure you do not touch it with anything fingers, cloth nothing!! This will remove the oil from the sensor which is probably causing your runability problem. Take the K&N and put it back on and run it for a few days to dry out the dirt/oil that is on the filter. After you have driven it a few days take it off and just rinse it lightly do not wash it with the cleaner or soap this will remove the dirt and excess oil but leave the oil needed to get the job done . I had to do this with my 2000 tacoma it was trial and error but i got it done the first time just a little common sense :)

ORIGINAL: shawnvw REmove the air filter for a test drive to see if it is whats cause you grief If the mass air flow is covered in oil this will only make it worse by exposing it to more dirt. Also if the mass air flow has any disturbance in the incoming air the engine will run very rough you can try this by taking your filter off start the motor and blow lightly at the maf the engine will run rough or just die all together. please don't go on a test drive without your air filter this isnt a good idea in any case.
